The Captainâs Toast may be tradition, but right now, itâs cramping my style. I wonder if anyone but Scott would notice if I didnât show up.
âLetâs give it up for the Captain!â Scott says, his amplified voice carrying throughout the entire boat.
Damn it. At least I have a beautiful woman on my arm. I grab the hat that I literally only wear for the toast. Kiana giggles when she sees it.
âVery nautical,â she says.
I take it off and put it on her. âLooks better on you, anyway. Câmon, Captain. You have a toast to give.â
âIâll wear the hat, but I am not giving the toast.â
âWeâll see,â I say, picking her up and swinging her around. âLetâs go.â
I take her hand as I lead her onto the deck. I can tell sheâs a little shy, but thereâs nothing I want more than to show her off. All eyes are on us as we step up beside Scott. I usually hate this part of the cruise, but with Kiana by my side, itâs almost enjoyable.
One of the servers has a glass of champagne for each of us. I hand one to Kiana, and our eyes meet for a moment. Itâs as if weâre the only ones on the deck, and I canât wait until weâre really alone again.
âThank you for joining us tonight,â I say. âI sincerely hope that each and every one of you is having a night half as wonderful as mine.â
I raise my glass, and the guests let out a cheer as they do the same. I notice Kianaâs friend looking at her with big eyes. âDo you think sheâs changed her mind about you being a buzzkill?â I whisper to Kiana.
She almost chokes on her champagne as she snorts. âSheâs just upset that the most handsome man on board is with me.â
I take another look at Jill, and I can see how this normally works out. Jill drags Kiana out, and men flock to Jill and ignore Kiana. She might not mean it maliciously, but that doesnât mean Jill doesnât enjoy this setup.
âCan I kiss you?â I ask Kiana.
She nods, and I press my mouth to hers, eliciting another cheer from the crowd. Kiana parts her lips and I lick into her mouth, savoring the taste of champagne.
Sure enough, when I look up, Jill has a sour look on her face. Good. Itâs time for my gorgeous girl to shine, for once.
âI donât know about you, but Iâve had more than enough time in public,â I say.
âAgreed,â Kiana says breathlessly. âMight be a good idea to find somewhere a little more private.â
I give a final wave to the crowd and begin making my way back to the bridge. Itâs slower going this time, as partiers keep stopping me to chat.
As we near the bridge (and our freedom), Jill steps into our path. Sheâs removed the cover-up she had on before, and her goods are on full display in her skimpy bikini. She could easily have any man on boardâexcept me.
